Insights of the Report
Puriscal’s VLR stemmed from a national project entitled Red de Cantones Promotores de los ODS (Network of Canton Promoters of the SDGs) by IFAM and UNDP. The VLR underscores the municipal council's dedication to promoting SDGs, aligning strategic plans with the 2030 Agenda, identifying sustainable development policies, and integrating SDG references into operational and budgetary plans. The process involved eight steps, prioritising six SDGs crucial for Puriscal's development (Goals 4, 5, 9, 11, 12, and 13). The VLR categorised results into management, political and quantitative dimensions, showcasing tangible accomplishments and initiatives like scholarships for indigenous students and sustainable waste collection services, emphasising inclusivity and public value.

City Profile
Puriscal is the fourth canton of the province of San José in Costa Rica, with Santiago as its capital. Notably, it boasts several national historical heritages like the Templo de Barbacoas, Templo de Pedernal, and the iconic Old Catholic Temple of Puriscal, designated as an architectural historical heritage site of Costa Rica. The census data indicates the economically active population is distributed across sectors: Primary Sector (15.8%), Secondary Sector (14.4%) and Tertiary Sector (69.8%). The Old Catholic Temple of Puriscal stands out architecturally, resembling a large cross in shape.
