Insights of the Report

This is Mérida’s first Voluntary Local Review. The VLR makes a further step forward on the city’s commitment to sustainable development and the localisation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This VLR redoubles the city’s efforts to use the SDGs as a reference framework to inform public policies. The VLR describes the city’s process to align its municipal strategies with the 2030 Agenda as well as reviewing progress towards the SDGs. Review of goals are divided into two sections: municipal actions to advance the SDGs (with focus on SDGs 1, 3, 5, 8, 9, 11, 13, 16, and 17) and multi-actor initiatives (exploring SDGs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 11, and 17).

Mérida is the capital and most populous city of the State of Yucatán, in the Southeast region of Mexico. The city functions as the cultural and financial capital of the State of Yucatán and the Yucatán Peninsula, and is the location of many museums and other public institutions. Mérida is renowned for its rich cultural heritage as well as for its science and technology centres.
