City Profile

Goicoechea is a canton in Costa Rica, located in the north of the province of San José, within the Greater Metropolitan Area. It ranks as the ninth most populous in the country and the fourth in the province. It shares borders with several other cantons, including Vázquez de Coronado, Moravia, Tibás, San José, Montes de Oca and Cartago. The canton is known for its economic focus on the service sector, employing a significant portion of its active population. Additionally, Goicoechea hosts various multinational companies and government institutions, contributing to its importance within the Greater Metropolitan Area. The canton's terrain varies from urban in the west to natural and mountainous in the east due to its narrow territory.
