ISAP2025 The 17th International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific “Our World in Flux: How to Shape a Sustainable Future through Just Transition”

Press Release

The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) is set to host the 17th International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific (ISAP2025). This year, the Plenary Sessions will be held on Tuesday, 29 July 2025 at Pacifico Yokohama as a hybrid event, with both in-person and online participation. The Thematic Tracks will also take place online from August to October 2025.

The ongoing triple planetary crisis—comprising climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution—demands a renewed global commitment to building a sustainable society. However, progress remains slow, as seen in the delays and setbacks affecting key global agreements such as the Paris Agreement and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), further complicated by on-going conflicts and unpredictable environmental policy development on a global scale. Our world is in a state of flux but there is still room for hope: A growing global understanding and a shared sense of purpose are giving rise to integrated approaches that address sustainability challenges holistically rather than in isolation. Equitable and inclusive change also depends on active stakeholder participation, which is essential to accelerating progress toward global sustainability targets.

ISAP2025 will feature in-depth discussions on how to balance environmental sustainability with social equity amid growing geopolitical instability, focusing on strengthening synergies to shape a sustainable future through a just transition that leaves no one behind. To this end, ISAP will look at these issues through the lens of Asia and the Pacific, sharing practical ideas and expertise to send a message about the importance of inclusive policymaking aimed at a systemic sustainable and just transition. Join us as we lay the groundwork for a future that is not only sustainable but also fair and resilient for all.

About International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific (ISAP)
As the world's most populous region, Asia needs to be at the forefront of efforts to achieve a rapid transformation. Held annually since 2009, ISAP has two major objectives ―first, it facilitates information-sharing and discussion among a broad range of interested stakeholders, deepening mutual trust and strengthening cooperation. Secondly, the forum gives the general public a chance to discover the progress being made in the global debate on environmental issues, and introduces them to the latest research trends. ISAP encourages wide-ranging collaborative efforts to create the groundwork for building a sustainable society. In particular, it provides a forum for practical information-gathering and networking, targeting local government officials who deal with environmental issues, corporate officials carrying out research and collecting the latest information in investor relations or sustainability departments, as well as media representatives pursuing the impact of international discussions on Japan and reporting on the gap between Japan and the rest of the world.
