On 5th September 2021, Prof. Xuemei Bai, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and Distinguished Professor of Urban Environment at Fenner School of Environment and Society, Australian National University, was awarded the Global Economy Prize 2021 from the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.
At the award ceremony, Prof. Bai's work on urban sustainability was recognised for "encourage small groups in society to initiate programmes themselves that contribute to sustainable development”
In response to Prof. Bai's award, IGES President Kazuhiko Takeuchi said "I am delighted that the world-renowned Kiel Institute for the World Economy recognised Prof. Bai’s work by awarding her the Global Economy Prize. Prof. Bai has been my research colleague for many years, and has provided our Institute with many valuable suggestions as a member of the IGES Board of Trustees. IGES extends its heartfelt congratulations to Prof. Bai on this great achievement. We wish her all the best for her endeavours and look forward to her continued guidance.”
