Workshop on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) in Myanmar

(Asia/Tokyo)

The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation (MONREC), Global Environment Centre Foundation (GEC), and Overseas Environmental Cooperation Center (OECC) jointly organised the “Workshop on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) in Myanmar”, on 4 November 2019.

The aim of the workshop was to disseminate information about the JCM in Myanmar, including its current status, various financial schemes, and the experiences of governments and project participants. In the morning, IGES researchers gave presentations titled “Update on the JCM and Financing Program”, and “JCM’s contribution to achievement of NDC and SDGs”. The presentation by MONRE focused on the development of Myanmar’s climate change policies and the status of the JCM in Myanmar. A Japanese project participant company in Myanmar also shared its experience and role as a project participant. In the afternoon session, IGES, GEC, and OECC received active feedback from the participants about Joint Crediting Mechanism implementation, in order to further enhance their understanding of the JCM. The workshop was the first JCM-related event organised by IGES in Yangon, and IGES' contribution to the promotion of the JCM in Myanmar included more than 60 participants from both the private and government sectors.
