Workshop to Facilitate Matchmaking for Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) in Bangladesh

On 15 October 2019, the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), and the Department of Environment (DoE) on behalf of the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Bangladesh, in collaboration with the Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI), the Overseas Environmental Cooperation Center (OECC), and the Global Environment Centre Foundation (GEC) jointly organised a workshop on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM), in Dhaka, Bangladesh. 

The workshop aimed to promote further dissemination of low carbon technologies in Bangladesh through the JCM. This included updated information on the JCM financing scheme, experiences with projects, and contributions to the achievement of SDGs through the JCM. Among a series of presentations, IGES researchers gave an “Update on the JCM Financing Programme”, and discussed “The JCM’s Contribution to SDGs Implementation”. The GEC described the financing programme for the JCM Model Projects and the JCM Global Match. The OECC introduced their activities on the JCM about project findings and development. A presentation by the DoE focused on the current progress of financed projects and expectations for green development through the JCM. As representatives of private sector, Sharp Energy Solutions Corporation and Mayekawa Manufacturing Co. Ltd. shared their experiences and lessons learned from the JCM. Approximately 90 participants, representing the government and private sector, attended the workshop and were actively involved in discussions about further development of the JCM in Bangladesh. 

In the afternoon session, many participants joined for business matchmaking and consultation with IGES, GEC, and OECC. This session further contributed to a deepened understanding of the JCM among the interested participants.
