【About ISAP2022】
The Plenary Sessions will be held on Monday, 28 November at Pacifico Yokohama, and Thematic Tracks will be held online from Tuesday, 29 November to Monday, 5 December.
The overall theme of ISAP2022 is ”Strengthening Synergies between Climate Change and Biodiversity: From Science to Policy to Action”, focusing on integration across two of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges: climate action and biodiversity conservation. In addition, the world has recently seen some major geopolitical changes triggered by the war in Ukraine, and discussions at ISAP this year will look at how these changes will impact future global environmental policies and what direction to take to meet the challenges we now face. Greater cooperation would help to identify integrated solutions to climate change and biodiversity. It would also help anticipate and find a balance on climate change and biodiversity trade-offs, which tend not to be discussed much.
To accelerate action in this ”decisive decade”, ISAP will host a wide variety of sessions to deepen discussions with not only policymakers, but also research and academic institutions, business practitioners and youth, aiming to secure as many options as possible for the future, so that we can continue to enjoy the Earth’s natural environment under a stable climate for years to come.
The Plenary Sessions will focus on the overall theme of integrated solutions to climate change and biodiversity. Among others, Plenary Session 3, “From Science to Policy to Action”, will feature a discussion between Sandrine DIXSON-DECLEVE, lead author of the Club of Rome's latest report “Earth for All” released in September; HAYASHI Yoshitsugu, President, the Japanese Association of the Club of Rome; and TAKEUCHI Kazuhiko, IGES President, who supervised the translation into Japanese.
This new report identifies five areas that need immediate actions and concrete solutions: poverty, inequality, empowerment, food and energy. As we face a variety of global threats, the report urges an "extraordinary turnaround" of current economic and social systems. The report provides useful guidelines for accelerating our efforts towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ensuring that we are on the right track towards a sustainable future.
This session will unveil the Japanese translation of “Earth for All”, which has already become a major topic of discussion in various circles. The book will also be on sale at a special price for on-site participants at the Pacifico Yokohama venue.
Thematic Tracks this year, starting on 29 November online, are organised around a specific topic each day. All thematic tracks will be live-streamed and recorded, so participants are able to watch the sessions, irrespective of time or location. Participants tuning in live have the chance to communicate directly with the speakers during Q&A. We invite you to participate in your preferred style of viewing.
