国と国とが対立の度を深める今という時代に、21世紀の人類の共通目標となりつつあるカーボンニュートラル（炭素中立）化を目指した研究・教育をする意味を考えた論考です。まず、炭素中立への移行は、黒船という外からの力により開国という重い扉を開いた明治維新以降の日本社会の変化と歩みに類する脱炭素革命と呼ぶべき挑戦であることを指摘します。その上で、22世紀までの未来社会を共創していくためには、東西という限られた視野を超えて、アジアの周辺国の人々との理解を深め合い、助け合っていくことが不可欠であると主張しています。今後さらに深刻化する気候変動と社会変動に対処していくには、戦争状態を超えた長期的な平和に対するビジョンと戦略を持ち、（反撃・報復行為はもとより）隣国を敵対視するのではない自由な精神で未来を拓き...
