In a transition to a net-zero world, large-scale solar PV diffusion is essential in the Philippines and the entire ASEAN region, since its potential is much larger than wind and other renewable energies. Considering the vulnerability of the Philippines and accelerating climate change, it is also vital to make sure that net-zero transition based on renewable energy is as resilient and beneficial as possible to local communities and the ambient natural environment. Recognizing the urgent challenges to pursue a resilient net-zero country in the latter half of the century, this workshop aimed at discussing and providing evidence on the following topics:

  • Current status of resilience (or vulnerability) of a community
  • Solar PV diffusion potential and associated co-benefits on land-use, resilience, adaptation, and sustainable development in the local communities and industries of agriculture, aquaculture and fishing (i.e., comparing current system and system with solar PV)
  • Strategies to upscale solar PV diffusion and enhance climate resilience of the local communities to adapt well to future climate change
