Prioritisation of SDGs in the national development plans using IGES SDG Interlinkages Tool: Case studies in Lao PDR, Ethiopia and Tanzania

Event: Technical workshop on analytical tools for capacity building on quantitative methods for SDG interactions and integration in national development strategies and integrated planning, organised by UNDESA, 18-19 December 2019, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
With limited capacities and financial resources, least developed countries such as Lao PDR, Ethiopia and Tanzania faces tremendous challenges in filling the development gaps and achieving the broad scope of SDGs with 169 targets and more than 230 indicators. Priority setting is therefore indispensable which can help use limited resources effectively by addressing the accelerators and mitigating the trade-offs. This presentation, based on the country studied in three countries, presents a new insight on priority setting from an interlinkage perspective to complement the existing priority setting practiced in three countries under their respective national development plans. This study supports integrated planning and implementation of SDGs in developing countries.
