Regional Adaptation Planning for Addressing Transboundary Climate Risks

Event: Regional collaboration for climate and SDG actions in the HKH
Date: 29 March 2019

The objectives of the session are to emphasize the following points: Climate Change in the Hindu Kush Himalayas will seriously comprise food, nutritional and energy security in the region and downstream, severely challenging abilities of nations – particularly the poorer nations– to achieve the SDGs. There is an urgent need for collective climate action and a fundamental step should be fostering a Climate Action Alliance, drawing on nations both within the region and downstream. In addition to collective climate action for adaptation within the region, there is a need for nurturing and promoting a strong collective voice from the region urging urgent global steps to arrest temperatures to 1.5oC and facilitate adequate climate financing and investments to the region.
