This baseline report, supported by the IGES Centre Collaborating with UNEP on Environmental Technologies (CCET) and prepared in advance of Myanmar's First National/ City-level Workshops on Waste Management Strategy Development held 13-17 June 2016, focuses on three main objectives: i) to review the scope and effectiveness of Myanmar’s current waste management system, ii) to identify existing constraints and areas for improvement towards meeting the country’s desired level of performance, and iii) to analyse gaps in present waste management policy and practice. The subsequent findings were used to provide appropriate data for guiding the drafting of Myanmar's national/ city level waste management strategies with a view towards addressing waste issues in a holistic and integrated manner.
