2017年末まで、中国が保有する発電設備総量は17.8億kWに達し、内、非化石燃料発電設備容量は6.9億kW、全体設備容量の38.7%を占める。2017年に新規導入した非化石燃料発電設備容量は8988万kWに達し、史上最多の記録を創った。導入量の順番として、太陽光が最も多く、全体の60%を占める5338kW、その後を風力の1952kWと水力の1287万kWが並ぶ。これに対し、石炭火力発電設備の新規導入量は3855万kWに止まり、前年度より142万kW少ない。
