Plastic pollution and marine litter is one of today's most serious emerging issues and without any countermeasures, the amount of plastic waste in the ocean will outweigh fish by 2050, posing a threat to the environment and our way of life. It is said that the COVID-19 pandemic has increased pollution from disposable products, such as plastic...

Plastic is ubiquitous: we use it for life-saving medical devices, clothing, toys and cosmetics; we use it in agriculture and industry. But we also know the growing risk of plastic waste in the environment, landfills and the oceans.

Policy Report

Accumulation of plastic wastes in the marine eco-system is growing rapidly with the increase of plastic production and consumption patterns, particularly single-use plastics as well as unsustainable plastic waste management practices. Land-based sources are recognised as the main cause (up to 80% of total marine debris) of marine plastic pollution...

Despite considerable hope and enthusiasm raised by the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs), and some quick initial efforts, many
governments and stakeholders are uncertain about how to proceed
concretely. The 2030 development agenda is intended to be transformative,
and the goals seem comprehensive, but they also are very complex - with
17 goals...
