Carbon pricing for the transition toward net-zero of Asia: With China’s national ETS as a focus

This presentation was given at the 11th congress of the Asian Association of Environmental and Resource Economics, which was held on August 19-20, 2022. In spite of a much wider scope of the submitted paper for this conference, the presentation solely focuses on the Chinese national emissions trading scheme (ETS) to avoid the overlap with the other speakers from Japan and the Republic of Korea in the same session. It summarizes the policy position, development process and the result of the first year operation of the national carbon market in China. The lessons learnt and future prospect of this policy are also discussed.
