G7 Toyama Environment Ministers’ Meeting Parallel Session

The Role of Cities

The Role of Cities The G7 Toyama Environment Ministers’ Meeting Parallel Session on ‘The Role of Cities’ was held in Toyama on 15 May, 2016, convened by the Ministry of the Environment, Japan, Toyama City, G7 Toyama Environment Ministers' Meeting Cooperation Committee and the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES).

The Parallel Session was attended by Mayors from cities in the G7 and other organisations. It has been pointed out that leading cities are frontrunners to make the transition to sustainable societies and they need inclusive and balanced collaboration between multiple stakeholders.

The session was a good opportunity for IGES to explore further collaboration with G7 cities and organisations to develop effective solutions for Asian cities where IGES has conducted studies and actions.
