The Atmospheric Pollution, Climate Change Nexus in Asia: Implications for a New Development Agenda

On 23 Feb 2016, around 30 researchers and policymakers from Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Europe participated in the third annual IGES-IIASA international workshop on " The Atmospheric Pollution, Climate Change Nexus in Asia: Implications for a New Development Agenda" in Kanagawa, Japan.

There is a growing awareness of the co-benefits from an integrated approach to air pollution and climate change policy in Asia. Such an approach would help policymakers understand the varying impacts of different atmospheric pollutants across space and time. There is nonetheless still considerable debate over how such an approach would be designed and implemented in Asia. The purpose of this workshop was to begin to make connections between researchers and policymakers to help operationalize an integrated approach to air pollution and climate change in Asia. The workshop also considered possible linkages between the recently approved Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and air quality-climate change co-benefits.

The workshop featured introductory remarks and three panels on the above themes.
