Asia Pacific Water Forum (APWF) Regional Knowledge Hub for Groundwater Management
Pre-Launch Workshop : Groundwater - its myths and reality -

Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) together with Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Department of Groundwater Resources (DGR), Thailand organised APWF regional knowledge hub for groundwater management pre-launch workshop for young water professionals entitled "Groundwater - its myths and reality -" at AIT. There were about 5 lectures delivered by experts from DGR, UNESCO-IHE, GW-MATE (Groundwater Management Advisory Team), International Groundwater Resources Assessment Center (IGRAC), and IGES, followed by discussion session facilitated by an expert of AIT. There were all together 59 participants which included graduate students from AIT and Mahidol University and young professionals from DGR.

Specific Learning Objectives of the workshop

  • Improvement of understandings on the basics about the inherent nature of groundwater;
  • Understand the reality - the status, key causes and potential impacts of emerging groundwater problems and management issues in Asia;
  • Gain knowledge on the available/potential tools and techniques to mitigate/prevent groundwater problems while keeping benefits from the resource in view to the growing concerns on food and water security.
