Workshop on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM)

The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and the Department of Climate Change, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (DCC, MONRE) jointly organised the “Workshop on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM)” on 19 January 2018.

Aiming towards promoting sustainable development goals through transfers of low-carbon technology, the purpose of the workshop was to share experiences of the JCM model projects to attract and enhance the implementation of JCM in Lao PDR. IGES researchers gave presentations on “CDM and JCM under the Paris Agreement”, “the JCM model project financing programme and project development support” and “Introduction to ADB trust fund and projects, Low carbon technology”. Participants from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Ministry of Energy and Mines gave presentations on the “Role and benefits of the JCM for Lao PDR” and “Potential for renewable energy development in Lao PDR”, and shared their experience in utilising the JCM for the future. Around 30 participants representing the government and the private sector gained an understanding of the mechanism and methodologies though active discussions.
