Matchmaking Workshop on Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) in Bangladesh

The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and Department of Environment (DOE), Bangladesh jointly organised the second workshop on Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) on 21 March 2017, at the Conference Hall, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Motijheel, Dhaka. A total of 80 participants from business associations, local private companies, and representatives of Japanese companies, autonomous industrial corporations and relevant government agencies attended the workshop and actively participated in the discussion.

A series of presentations was delivered in the workshop including an introduction to JCM, updates of JCM in Bangladesh, introduction to the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) and JCM Financing Schemes, opportunities for the private sector in Bangladesh, and introduction to the JCM matchmaking platform. The workshop participants acknowledged that the JCM Model Project Schemes was beneficial for Bangladesh. It was pointed out that matchmaking between Japanese and local companies is one of the main challenges in the process of JCM Model Projects. Participants expected that more JCM workshops will be organised in different economic zones, which will help JCM to reach to wider audience and facilitate matchmaking.
