JCM workshop - dissemination of low carbon technologies in the Philippines through the JCM
The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), together with Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ), and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) of the Philippines, organized the “Workshop on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM)- How to facilitate dissemination of low carbon technologies in the Philippines through the JCM” on 19 February 2019.
The workshop, held in Manila, aimed to promote further dissemination of low carbon technologies in the Philippines through the JCM. This included enhanced understanding of relevant policies for facilitating the implementation of JCM projects, including information on the JCM financing scheme and sharing experiences with the projects. IGES researchers made presentations on “Result of COP24 and Article 6 of Paris Agreement” and “Update on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) and Financing Programme”. The participant from the Climate Change Commission of the Philippines presented the domestic climate change policy and measures, as well as the institutional framework prepared for reporting implementation of the NDC under the Paris Agreement, including inventory management. The representative from DENR gave a presentation about the JCM approval processes, such as preliminary preparation and methodology development flows, and expressed their interest to further facilitate project development in the Philippines under the JCM. As private sector delegates from Japan, both Tokyo Century Corporation and Chodai Co., Ltd. made presentations about rooftop solar power systems, hydropower projects, and biomass power plants which are implemented as select JCM model projects in the country. They also shared their knowledge gained through project implementation. Around 70 participants representing the government and private sector attended the workshop and were actively involved in the discussion about further development of the JCM in the Philippines.
