JCM Workshop for low carbon technology in Lao PDR
The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and Department of Climate Change, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (DCC, MONRE) jointly organised the “JCM Workshop for low carbon technology in Lao PDR” on 25 January 2019.
Aiming to promote the sustainable development goals through transfers of low carbon technology, the purpose of the workshop was to share the experiences of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) model projects, in order to attract and enhance the implementation of JCM in Lao PDR. IGES researchers made presentations on “Result of COP24 and Article 6 of Paris Agreement” and “Update on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) and Financing Programme”, about utilising JCM projects to achieve the NDC target under the Paris Agreement. Participants from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Ministry of Energy and Mines made presentations on “The JCM activities in Lao PDR and benefits for private sector” and “Activities of GHG emission reduction in energy sector”, and shared their experience in utilising the JCM for the future. One of the project participants in Laos, Electricite Du Laos (EDL), also shared their experience implementing amorphous high efficiency transformer usage in power distribution systems. Through active discussions, around 30 participants representing the government and the private sector gained an understanding of the mechanism.
