Second Series of Expert Meetings under the France-Japan Collaboration on Long-term Low Carbon Strategies

The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) held a second series of expert meetings in Paris, France, from 3 to 7 March 2017 together with the National Institute for Environmental Studies, Japan (NIES) and Mizuho Information & Research Institute (MRI). The Japanese delegation met with French organisations such as the International Center of Research on the Environment and Development (CIRED), the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI), the French Environment & Energy Management Agency (ADEME) and the French Ministry of Environment, Energy and the Sea (MEEM).

The meetings strengthened the collaboration between both countries in the fields of scenario modelling for low-carbon strategies. Common work is taking shape notably regarding experimentation of modelling templates, use of a modelling toolkit in the transport sector for both sides and summer school programmes to facilitate exchange and communication among modelling experts. Participants also exchanged on other potential joint research projects, regarding notably carbon taxes, stakeholder engagement practice and climate-related financial disclosure policies.
