First Annual Meeting under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between France and Japan

The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) took part in the first bilateral annual meeting between France and Japan as one of the major research institutes correspondent to the MOU to promote joint research and activities together with French research institutes. As part of the activities set out in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by both Ministers for the Environment at COP 21 in Paris in December 2015, representatives from the Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ) and the French Ministry of Environment, Ecology and the Sea (MEEM) met in Tokyo on 9 December 2016.

Regarding low-carbon scenarios, both sides shared information on activities and updates from their bilateral research collaboration between ADEME, NIES and IGES. They also shared information on their adaptation-related activities and products, such as Japan’s A-PLAT and France’s ONERC Platform. The French and Japanese representatives agreed to focus their collaboration on scenario modelling first (modelling research and related outreach activities), and stated being open to enlarge the scope of their collaboration in the future.

The next expert meeting was agreed to be held in February/March 2017 and the next governmental meeting in the Autumn of 2017 in France.
