Initiatives for the International Deployment of Japanese Low-carbon Technologies
Promoting the Widespread Adoption of Japanese Low-carbon Technologies in Asian Countries including India

Commissioned as part of the FY2016 Project for Evaluation and Verification of CO2 Emission Reduction Technologies Overseas

As global economic growth has slowed down in recent years, the outlook is starting to look less bright for ASEAN economies, which had been beneficiaries of the ‘China plus one’ model. In particular, economic growth in Thailand – home to the biggest cluster of Japanese companies overseas – has slowed down and the relocation of plants from Thailand to surrounding countries has also entered a lull. On the other hand, India’s growth overtook China’s in 2015 for the first time in 20 years, buoyed by strong domestic demand.

The keynote speech will provide an overview of the current state of Asian economies, which have been undergoing rapid progress and transformation, and moves by Japanese companies to restructure their Asian business development. It will then look at the prospects for Asian economies and responses by Japanese companies. In the Explanation of Purpose, speakers will outline the international deployment of low-carbon technologies by IGES in light of negotiations at the first session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA1) in Morocco. This will be followed by a panel discussion featuring reports and discussion of examples of such deployment, with a primary focus on activities in India.
