IGES involvement in Kawasaki City’s 14th Asia-Pacific Eco-Business Forum and International Eco-Tech Fair 2018
16 February 2018
On 1-2 February, the IGES Centre Collaborating with UN Environment on Environmental Technologies (CCET) participated in Kawasaki International Eco-Tech Fair 2018. Kawasaki City—a globally recognised frontrunner in the development of industrial pollution control technologies and equipment— organises the Fair every year with a view to showcase ongoing business efforts, part of a wider initiative to enhance international cooperation, knowledge and technology transfer between the municipality and its public and private partners around the world.
CCET was on hand to present lessons learned from its work supporting the development of integrated waste management strategies at the national, city, and regional levels in the countries of Myanmar, Cambodia and the Maldives, respectively. In this context, IGES also took part in Kawasaki’s 14th Asia-Pacific Eco-Business Forum, which was held simultaneously with the Fair on February 1st. Organised under the theme of “Toward an Urban-Industrial Symbiosis - Actions from Kawasaki: Strengthening Cooperation among Cities in Asia to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” , the Forum provided an opportunity for IGES researchers to highlight current activities supporting the implementation of the SDGs across the region, including in the areas of governance and waste management. IGES was joined by a number of other distinguished experts and organisations working across Asia and the Pacific, including the United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment), as well as government, academia, and business sector representatives from Japan, Korea, China, the Philippines, Malaysia, Myanmar and Indonesia, among others.
