DAY2: 13:15-14:45 Parallel Session 3

How Relevant are Existing Models to Promote Low-carbon Technology Diffusion?

2015 saw the signing of two global agreements with ambitions to address climate change ( Paris Agreement) and sustainable development (the SDGs) more broadly. In both agreements, technology will play crucial role to meeting their respective targets. Yet, despite a wide range of activities and initiatives in the area, finding the missing links between the various facets of effective technology diffusion remains elusive. The session seeks to identify the different perspectives inherent in the technology diffusion debate with a view to understanding how to build better models for cooperation. The session gathers experts and practitioners from developed and developing countries, working across academia, government and the private sector to solicit their views on the main barriers and solutions to effective technology diffusion. Furthermore, a new initiative which aims to strengthen the links between the business, finance and policy communities will be presented and reviewed by the panellists. Consolidating this triad is essential to understand and navigate the synergies and discords across the levels of implementation, which will be critical to the effective role of technology in implementing major international agreements and the 2030 agenda.
