IGES Open Seminar
"Environmental Issues in Asia from the Perspective of Material Flows Analysis:
Towards Sound Material Cycle Society in East Asia"
In its National Environmental Strategy for the 21st Century, officially launched in June 2007, the Government of Japan announced its intention to create a "vision for a Sound Material Cycle Society in East Asia". It will aim to achieve both environmentally and economically appropriate and harmonious material circulation in East Asia as a whole. This open seminar which was co-organised by the Ministry of the Environment, Japan and IGES invited experts in international material flow and resource circulation to identify opportunities and challenges for the establishment of environmentally appropriate international material flow in East Asia.

Over 120 audiences from the business sector, academia and general public attended the seminar. This seminar provided a good opportunity for both experts and audiences to share their knowledge and expertise in environmental issues and discuss a possible path towards sustainable development for East Asia.
