Towards a Green Growth Accelerating More:
"OECD Green Cities Programme Commemorative Meeting for the Kitakyushu Report Publication"

Dr. Hiroyuki Kage, Director of IGES’s Kitakyushu Urban Centre (KUC), coordinated the “OECD Green Cities Programme Commemorative Meeting for the Kitakyushu Report Publication” in October 2013.

KUC has so far carried out the secretariat function together with Kitakyushu City as a core member of the “Kitakyushu Local Team for OECD Green City Programme”. We have provided Kitakyushu City with considerable advice on OECD report drafts. We have also implemented a commissioned survey on policy recommendations for disseminating local governments’ initiatives to promote green growth policies worldwide.

This conference disseminated a summary of the report entitled “OECD Green Growth Studies: Green Growth in Kitakyushu, Japan”, which has just been published by OECD. Dr. Rolf Alter, director of the OECD, introduced Kitakyushu City as one of the green growth cities, showing evidence to support the key to success. He stressed the importance of innovation for fulfilling green growth. Mr. Kenji Kitahashi, the Mayor of Kitakyushu City declared that the city would like to contribute to green growth in Asian cities as well as across the world, using the experience evaluated by OECD.
