• Prof. Hamanaka won “The 9th JICA Recognition Award”

    07 Oct. 2013
  • Prof. Hamanaka, Chair of Board of Directors, IGES has been chosen as one of the recipients of "The 9th JICA Recognition Award" for his contribution to JICA's international cooperation programmes.
At the same time, one of the recipients of "The 9th JICA President Commendation” for projects and persons is “Cooperation on Climate Change” for projects jointly carried out by the Governments of Indonesia and Japan, including the Indonesia Climate Change Programme Loan to which IGES has also contributed for the past five years.

Prof. Hamanaka gave the following remarks on being selected for the award.

It is a great honour and pleasure for me to be selected as one of the awardees of the 9th JICA Recognition Award.

I understand that the reason behind this award is that I took on responsibility as Team Leader of the Advisory and Monitoring Team for the Indonesia Climate Change Programme Loan. I visited Jakarta several times to participate in the Steering Committee meetings attended by high level officials of Indonesian government agencies and development partners. I also provided comments based on the assessment of Indonesian government's performance in implementing climate change mitigation/adaptation actions, and held high-level dialogues with the ministers of Indonesian government agencies.

I believe the award represents a collective effort by all members of the JICA Team of Experts, many of whom were IGES researchers, and their collective contribution, including myself as a Team Leader, has been recognised by JICA.

I am also delighted to hear that “Cooperation on Climate Change (Technical Cooperation and ODA Loans)” carried out by the Governments of Indonesia and Japan, has been chosen as one of the recipients of "The 9th JICA President Commendation."
