Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of its establishment, IGES held the symposium on "Strategy to Combat Climate Change in Asia and the Pacific", on 21 June 2008, in Yokohama, which was attended by about 330 participants.
The symposium aimed to discuss climate change actions which the Asia-Pacific should take, in the course of presentations and debates including a Keynote Session by Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, Chairman of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and Ms. Yoriko Kawaguchi, Member of the House of Councilors, Japan.
Prior to the symposium, there was a special session in the morning at which leading experts and researchers in the fields held discussions, focussing on climate change issues related to water, biofuels and forestry in Asia and the Pacific, and identifying key points to realise a low carbon society.
At the symposium, IGES launched its second White Paper that sets out policy recommendations to integrate climate change policies and sustainable development, fully taking into account the needs of developing countries in Asia and the Pacific. It shows the way for new development towards making low carbon society a reality.
Report of the Symposium is now on line.
