IGES Kansai Research Center International Symposium 2009

Climate Change/ Global Environment and Natural disaster

The Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake on record occurred in January 1995. Since the occurrence of this tragic disaster, various efforts have been made towards "Creative Reconstruction" with the aim of achieving more than merely returning the region to the pre-earthquake state. The 15th Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Memorial Events were held on the theme of "transmission" and "reduction" for sending messages to the next generation.

As a part of the memorial events, The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) held the International Symposium on "Climate Change/Global Environment and Natural disaster" based on the awareness of great connection between climate change/global environment and natural disasters for experts who have been involved in the fields of environment and disaster reduction as well as the public.
