| The 4th Expert Meeting on Solid Waste Management in Asia and Pacific Islands and Open Seminar (4th SWAPI) |

The Expert Meeting on Solid Waste Management in Asia and Pacific Islands aims to construct a network of solid waste management experts for the promotion of 3Rs and appropriate management of waste in the Asia and Pacific Islands region. At the 1st Expert Meeting, in Tokyo, October 2005, hosted by the Japan Society of Waste Management Experts (JSWME), JICA, JBIC and NIES, the "MOTTAINAI" declaration was agreed. At the 2nd Expert Meeting in Kitakyushu, November 2006, the expert network was named as the Society of Solid Waste Management Experts in Asia and Pacific Islands (SWAPI). At the 3rd Expert Meeting in Okayama, November 2007, the operation guidelines of SWAPI was adopted, and concrete activities began to be implemented by the research network.
The 4th Expert Meeting and the Open Seminar was held in the City of Yokohama as detailed below. The Ministry of the Environment, Japan has been giving its support since the 2nd Meeting, and the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) has acted as the Secretariat.
