IGES Open Forum:
Global Environmental Strategies for
Asia-Pacific

IGES conducts strategic research for the realisation of sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region, based on three-year research phases. The Fourth Phase of Strategic Research began in April 2007.
The forum's keynote speech by Dr. William Glanville (Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), Canada), titled "The Growth and Development of a Sustainable Development Research Organization", dealt with what policy institutes like IGES and IISD ought to be and the common issues they face.
After the presentation by Mr. Mori (IGES Vice President) on the outline of the strategic research for the Fourth Phase and the course of future research, a panel discussion followed which focused on the urgent problem of
global warming. Speakers were the IGES researchers and research advisers who are among the leading experts in the field. It was also an opportunity to discuss effective environmental strategies for the Asia-Pacific region
from various perspectives such as climate, water, energy, business and education based on results accumulated by IGES so far. |
