The third meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP/MOP 3), in conjunction with the thirteenth session of the Conference of the Parties to the Climate Change Convention (COP 13) was held in Bali from 3 to 14 December 2007.

IGES held four side events during the conference, as well as an exhibit booth to introduce its research activities.

This event presented the outcomes of the third round of IGES multi-stakeholder consultations on the post-2012 climate change regime held in China and India. Presentations and panel discussions focused on ways to reconcile Asian developmental priorities with global climate interests in the post-2012 regime.

APFED Policy Dialogue on Climate Change

Prominent Asian experts who are the members of APFED (Asia-Pacific Forum for Environment and Development) presented their views and recommendations on how should Asia tackle climate change challenges and how can Asian countries work together for global sustainability, with the intention of providing impetus to the policy processes on climate change.

Financing and Mainstreaming of Adaptation to Climate Change: Priorities and Prospects

The event summarised the findings of an expert consultation on mainstreaming adaptation in February 2007, and of multi-stakeholder consultations held in India and China in August and September 2007. Policy makers from Asian countries and representatives from international organisations discussed priorities for mainstreaming and financing of adaptation measures in Asia.

This side event discussed possible and practical ways to reform current CDM rules based on the experience of CDM implementation to date in order to further accelerate sustainable development in the host countries. The event invited CDM experts and representatives from Designated National Authorities (DNA) in selected Asian countries.

Asian Perspectives on Climate Regime Beyond 2012: Concerns, Interests and Priorities

In 2005, IGES launched the consultation "The Asia-Pacific Consultations on Climate Regime Beyond 2012" to promote new and constructive thinking in the Asia-Pacific region on future actions against climate change beyond 2012, and to contribute to the shaping of a future climate regime that adequately reflects the concerns and developmental aspirations of countries in the region. The consultations were held on a national and regional basis in six Asian nations: China, India, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea and Viet Nam. The results of the first round of the consultations in 2005 are summarised in this book.
