The Asia-Pacific Forum for Environment and Development (APFED) was established with approval of the 10th Environment Congress for Asia and the Pacific (ECO ASIA 2001) in October 2001 to address critical issues facing Asia and the Pacific region and to propose a model of equitable and sustainable development for the region. Twenty-six members of the Forum has been nominated by Asia-Pacific countries and international organizations, and former Japanese Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto has been elected as Chairperson. As part of their activities, APFED formulated its message to the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in 2002. |
