RISPO II is a partnership project
under the United Nations Environment Programme/Network
of Institutions for Sustainable Development (UNEP-NISD).
This partnership project focusses on the rapidly
developing economic integration in Asia through
the process of creating an East-Asian community.
The overall objective of this partnership project
is to provide policy-makers with strategic environmental
policy options for promoting sustainable development
identifying environmental and socio-economic effects
at national and regional levels that will stem
from the future regional economic integration
in East Asia. For the purpose of in-depth study,
this project will conduct country case studies
that include: China, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic
of Korea, Thailand, and Viet Nam.
The core activities of the partnership will be
the following three interrelated and complementary
activities:

Evaluation of
the implications of regional economic integration
on the environment, while also taking into
account the impacts on social equity and economic
development; |

Assessment of
the capacity of existing environmental policies
and institutions to deal with the environmental
effects of regional economic integration;
and |
 |
Identification
of relevant policy instruments and mechanisms
for integrating environmental and social considerations
in regional economic integration. |
