Public Interest Activities Leaders Training Programme Seminar for Kanagawa High School Students
“Global Environmental Issues and Sustainable Development”
On 14 August 2009, IGES conducted a special seminar for high school students in Kanagawa as part of the Public Interest Activities Leaders Training Programme. The Programme's aim is to foster high school leaders who contribute to society from various aspects such as the environment, welfare and education. A total of 13 students attended a lecture on “Global Environmental Issues and Sustainable Development” by Dr. Satoshi Kojima, Manager of the Programme Management Office Economic Analysis Team. After the lecture, the students were divided into three groups representing developing countries, emerging countries and developed countries. Through role playing, they presented their policy proposals to reduce CO2 emissions reduction taking into account sustainable development and poverty issues. The students had a good opportunity to learn the importance of considering the position of other countries as well as holding an international perspective in order to develop global environmental policies.
