Seminar on a Co-benefits Approach:Emerging Trends and Needs

On 11-12 March 2010, IGES in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) organised "A Seminar on a Co-benefits Approach: Emerging Trends and Needs" at the Amari Watergate Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. The Ministry of Environment, Japan (MoEJ) provided financial support for the seminar. The seminar was attended by more than 80 participants, including government officials from 15 countries and representatives of 14 international organizations. Resource persons from several research institutes, local governments and universities also attended the seminar.

The seminar had three goals:

  • to disseminate the concept and the usefulness of a co-benefits approach in Asia;
  • to share the latest information on co-benefits technologies and experiences on co-benefits projects in Asia;
  • and to receive feedback and comments on a possible co-benefits network for Asia.

To achieve these goals, the seminar was divided into two sections: co-benefits projects; and co-benefits activities of international organisations. Plans to establish an "Asia Co-benefits Partnership" were outlined during the seminar's concluding discussion.
