Japanese-German Workshop on
Economic Instruments for Climate Protection
IGES held the "Japanese-German Workshop on Economic Instruments for Climate Protection" on 31 January and 1 February 2007 in Berlin, Germany, in cooperation with the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy (WI).
The workshop was held as a follow-up to the Japanese-German workshop and symposium on climate policy in 2005, as part of the German Year in Japan. This year's meeting focused on emissions trading and market mechanisms with the participation of various stakeholders including policy makers and representatives from businesses, industries, financial institutions, NGOs, and other experts. Based on the latest reports on the EU Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) and other initiatives in both Japan and Germany, the workshop identified effective ways of implementing carbon trading schemes and other market mechanisms to maximise the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
