UNFCCC SB46 Side Event:

Mitigation Action through Article 6 of the Paris Agreement

The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) jointly organised the side event “Mitigation Action through Article 6 of the Paris Agreement” on the margins of the forty-sixth sessions of the Subsidiary Body (SB46) in Bonn on 11 May 2017. This side event focused the current status of international negotiations for operationalisation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, especially for guidance on robust accounting. Firstly ICTSD reported the result of the informal forum on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, followed by interventions from negotiators of key countries (EU, New Zealand, Canada, Chile, South Africa and Japan) about their views and understandings. Since negotiations on Article 6 were open only to Parties and observers were unable to listen, this side event provided valuable opportunity for stakeholders to get an understanding on that part of discussions.

This side event was reported in Earth Negotiations Bulletin (ENB) issued by International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD)
