Workshop on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) and Opportunities for Private Companies in the Philippines
The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) held a workshop on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) on 21 February 2017 in Manila, Philippines, in collaboration with the Environmental Management Bureau, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (EMB-DENR). The workshop welcomed around 50 participants, mainly project developers in the energy sector interested in starting a JCM project. IGES presented the basics of the JCM measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) procedure, the JCM Financing schemes available, the benefits of the IGES JCM Matchmaking Platform and introduced examples of JCM case studies. Speakers from the EMB-DENR and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) also gave interesting presentations concerning the Philippines NDC adoption process and the Japan Fund for the JCM (JFJCM). Participants engaged in active discussions and they were eager to learn more about the financial opportunities of the JCM. The afternoon session included many one-on-one consultation meetings with project developers to answer their questions and advise them on the viability of their project idea and recommending possible ways to develop JCM projects.
