Workshop on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) and Opportunities for the Transfer of Low-carbon Technology to Enterprises

The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) held a Workshop on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) and Opportunities for the Transfer of Low-carbon Technology to Enterprises on 15 February 2017 in Hanoi, Viet Nam, in collaboration with the Department of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change (DMHCC), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE). The workshop welcomed around 60 participants, project developers in various sectors interested in starting a JCM project. IGES presented the JCM financing schemes available, opportunities for low-carbon technology transfer, the benefits of the IGES JCM Matchmaking Platform, examples of JCM case studies, updated information on cooperative approaches from COP22 and Japan’s policy orientation on the JCM. Speakers from the DMHCC gave presentations covering implementation of JCM projects in Viet Nam. Many private companies presented their expectations on the JCM in Viet Nam followed by a Q&A session, especially about the financial opportunities of the JCM. The afternoon session included one-on-one consultation meetings with project developers to discuss possible ways to develop JCM projects.
