    The IGES-TERI Policy Research Workshop
"Shaping the Future Climate Change Regime"

On 16-17 December 2013, the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) jointly organised a Policy Research Workshop on ‘Shaping the Future Climate Change Regime’ in New Delhi, India, as part of a work contract with the Ministry of Environment, Japan (MOEJ). The workshop aimed at providing a platform for policymakers, researchers and NGOs to exchange views of Japan and India, on various critical aspects related to the future climate change regime and the latest domestic mitigation and adaptation actions to effectively address climate change.

In Session 1 “the Future Climate Regime’’, participants discussed the IGES proposal for an effective post-2020 international climate regime, taking into account the outcomes of the UNFCCC 19th Conference of the Parties (COP19) held in Warsaw in November 2013. In Session 2 “Landscape of Domestic Mitigation Actions”, the emerging landscape of mitigation actions at national and sub-national levels and their implications on international cooperation were discussed. Session 3 “Adaptation Based on Scientific Knowledge” explored the linkages between scientific knowledge and understanding of adaptation challenges. The discussions highlighted many opportunities for further collaboration between IGES and the research community in India on the future climate change regime.
