“Japan's initiative on the Bilateral Offset Credit Mechanism(BOCM)and other activities for developing countries
” |
 |
 |
In order to contribute to the reduction and removal of global greenhouse gases (GHGs), the Government of Japan has proposed new market mechanism, namely the bilateral offset credit mechanism (BOCM), which will complement current mechanism, such as the clean development mechanism (CDM). The BOCM aims to promote dissemination of advanced low-carbon technologies and products at the global level, by properly evaluating emissions reduction and removal in developing countries.
The Government of Japan announced its gJapan's Vision and Actions toward Low-Carbon Growth and a Climate-Resilient Worldh on the occasion of COP17, to increase the broader cooperation with developing countries in the area of climate change through the establishment of the BOCM.
Currently, the Government of Japan has been working for the establishment of the BOCM in consultation with countries in East Asia. At the same time, the government has been developing policy schemes for the support of developing countries.
The objective of this side event is to share the current status of development of the BOCM as an effective GHG emissions reduction measure and to highlight other activities for supporting developing countries. The event took place on the occasion of the gEast Asia Low Carbon Growth Partnership Dialogueh which sees the convening of the East Asian Summit countries, representing around 60% of the global GHG emissions. |
