IGES-ADB-UNFCCC Secretariat Joint CDM Workshop
hWorkshop on Improving the Regional Distribution of CDM Projects in Asia and the Pacifich
The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) secretariat co-hosted the "Workshop on Improving the Regional Distribution of CDM Projects in Asia and the Pacific" on 8-9 September 2010 in Manila, Philippines. While China and India have a large number of CDM projects, over 30 countries are still lagging behind with fewer than 10 registered projects. In order to help improve the regional distribution of CDM projects in Asia and the Pacific, the workshop aimed to discuss challenges and institutional reform proposals and to assist developing CDM projects in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Mongolia, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

The main objectives of the workshop were: 1) to identify hindrances to CDM project development in those countries and propose CDM reform options; and 2) to support CDM project development in those countries assisting their local developers. For these objectives, the workshop invited officials from the Designated National Authorities (DNAs) - CDM focal points in the government - and public/private sector CDM developers and financial experts. The workshop consisted of a series of presentations and discussions on the proposed topics and also included one-by-one consultations with CDM project developers.
