Workshop on Identification of Barriers and Path towards CDM Reforms in Energy Intensive Sectors in India
The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) jointly organised a CDM Workshop for the cement, steel and power sectors on 27 January 2011. IGES and TERI gave presentations on the issues based on the paper they are currently developing, including the status of CDM project development in each sector in India and proposals to enhance project development. The National Council for Cement and Building Materials explained energy efficiency measures and potential emission reductions in cement production lines, and the Cement Manufacturers’ Association provided comments on technical aspects. Steel Authority of India Ltd.(SAIL) explained CDM issues based on its experiences in developing CDM project. Participants had a lively discussion, especially about the Indian-specific issues of CDM in each sector, such as limitation to energy efficiency improvement, changing baseline, and potential incompatibility with national policy.
