IGES and UNU-IAS agree on collaboration to promote research on the sustainability agenda of Asia and the Pacific
Will co-host an international environmental forum as a first joint initiative with more than 500 participants from 15 countries

On 25 July 2011, the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and the United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to extend collaboration in addressing the important sustainability agenda of Asia and the Pacific, in such a way as to create synergies and complementarities between the two organisations.

The collaborative activities under the MOU will include joint research activities and publications as well as joint organisation of and participation in seminars and symposiums.

As a first joint initiative, IGES and UNU-IAS will co-host an international forum, the third International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific (ISAP2011), which will be held on 26-27 July 2011 in Yokohama, Japan. ISAP2011 will be convened with the main theme of "New Asia-Pacific Perspectives towards Rio +20: Implications of the East Japan Disasters." The forum expects more than 500 participants from 15 countries worldwide.
